[ 12:36PM ] [ monkey ] [ Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival ]

The Legend of Crazy George has applied to:

The 20th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival
June 9 – 15, 2005
http://www.afff.nl/

See the sexy roach poster!

(I've attempted to translate the Amsterdam site information into English, but my Dutch is much worse than my Spanish. The effort has been made - the origional Ductch text follows the English translation)

AMSTERDAM: MAGICAL CENTRE
The from Amsterdam festival of the fantastic film becomes Amsterdam
supporter case tic film festival. Could the organisation be bought up sometimes by an American
mediagigant? Indicated rested; the AFFF remain just as approachable, public, not to say from Amsterdam as formerly. The change of name reflects much the status of ' Amsterdam ' as a
European festival. THE AFFF member of the EFFFF (European supporter case tic film
Festivals Federation) not only are, also it offers lodging to the festive distribution of gouden the
Méliès in 2004, the price for the best European fantastic films (long and briefly) of
the year.
On the ' fantastic market ' (West)Europa starts play an always more
important role, what should become clear from a head programme in which zowat the
complete continent takes part in a conversation a woordje. The high north brings our, in the form of invisible from Denmark, seizing a phantom tale around a young person who does not seem exist
for others litterally. But, with dark woods, also ice-cold horror in the environment of my little eye and the blair
witch project. A piece Southerner is the feeling temperature not much more pleasant, when in the French haute tension a family is atrociously massacred
under the eye of logée. Just as beklemmend it shuts in the new thriller of the italiaan Dario
Argento, the cardplayer, concerning a serial assassin who shows its macabre hand work on the
Internet. Spain offers afterwards flying saucers to a welcome breathing space
with the absurdist comedy, in what flying dishes are identified during the bewind of
generalissimo free.
But the AFFF look at further then the European borders and present to
also recent genrewerk from the distant east (tokyo godfathers, azumi), Australia (the local) and even Argentina (mercano ell marciano). And how it stands with the traditional largest exporter of fantastic
films, the United States? Also a striking variatie submits and styles. Of the one side of the spectrum the kijker is beset by massive zombie
- and kannibalen-offensief in dawn or the dead (the remake) and the
ghouls, on the other hand stand space-musical the (!) the american astronaut ready to transport him litterally and
figuratively to higher environments.
Being able dot a route he who by means of the track notebook thinks
from as calm boswandelingetje on zonnige a spring afternoon, is the address found oneself at the AFFF to. But he who there does not try himself deliver tegenop to the powerful
golfslag of the fantasie, and thereby fear, bewilderment, amazement, tenderising and sometimes slack does not laugh from the way goes, be possible what concerns us by to the next round.

ORIGIONAL TEXT:

AMSTERDAM: MAGISCH CENTRUM

[ 2:01PM ] [ monkey ] [ VICTORY! ACCEPTED:The Weekend of Fear ]

The Legend of Crazy George has been ACCEPTED to:
The Weekend of Fear
City of Erlangen Germany

Date is 11/12/13 March 2005

http://www.weekend-of-fear.com/deutsch/home.htm

WOF is existing since more than 11 years and became a kind of “cult festival” for all fans of “wicked” movies. The WOF is an independent show, means we work without any sponsoring and financial support from our government. This gives us free hand to do what we want! Filmmakers (Producers) have to pay NO entry fee for their films. Among our guests and visitors over the last years we had PETER JACKSON, LLOYD KAUFMAN, JÖRG BUTTGEREIT, OLAF ITTENBACH and many more.
Since 2 years the WOF gives away an award called THE GLIBB . It is the only eatable film award worldwide ( it’s a 2 kg gum bear)
The jury is voting for:
· The Golden Glibb (best movie)
· The Silver Glibb (2nd best movie)
· The special Glibb (best actor or actress)
The audience votes for another Glibb:
· The Audience Glibb for the best movie

WOF 2005
ACHTUNG - DIESMAL IN ERLANGEN
Hotels (erschwinglich) sind ebenfalls „round the corner“.
„ALLES“ Super. Ansonsten Alles (fast) beim Alten.
ALSO STAY TUNED….hier kommen jetzt ab sofort immer wieder News rein.
And, ha ho, thanks to ARI, our australian butcher for another great poster

[ 3:15AM ] [ monkey ] [ Memory 1 about McCaleb ]

A memory about Mike McCaleb, Asst Director:

Back in the day, when McCaleb lived in a bachelor shack out on Quinland Lake Road, many wild nights were spent sitting on a keg supervising the madness. At the Lung Butter Frisbee fest he and I had our first intense conversation. Ditching the keg McCaleb set up a post in his Kitchen and he and I drained a bottle of Jack and jawed long and hard about life the universe and the Legend of Crazy George. It was one of those conversations that distracted us from even the finest Sauce Queens in the county. We uncovered facts and mysteries that haunt me to this day. He explained to me the ways of making moonshine, spelunking in the rainy season, and the sound advise that its best to hit the Jackson County liquor store and get the hell out before the Sheriff –bless his heart he don’t know no better- decided to toss you in a cell for no good god damn reason. We jawed and jawed the night away, finally making the discovery that McCaleb was my third cousin. Recovering from the mutual shock, McCaleb provided me with a list of names that might potentially be kin, there by narrowing the dating pool significantly.

Ten years later, I recall being deep inside the fright factory covered in muck from the shins down and mold spores from the knees up. It was dark, cold and my big flash light had burned out in that feeble way hours ago. The Dungeon Master’s room was lit by the after glow of a lamp three chambers away and my dim mini light would, from time to time, uncover the details of a pile of cow bones I’d dragged from my Dad’s farm. I sensed a presence, turned and discovered McCaleb standing behind me. He was expressionless. I was summoned to the tool closet where on the way we stopped in the chain saw room and relieved the cooler of a few cold drinks.

I can still hear the scrapping sound of the drill box being dragged out of the tool closet, the thud of McCaleb foot as he placed it on the box, and the crisp grind and pop of the Coke lid as McCaleb released the air from the can. “I’ve seen a ghost” he said. His face showed no expression as he watched mine to see if I believed him. “I’ve seen a ghost, a dead cold ghost in the rubber face hall.”

I can not tell you more, because I would ruin the tale in the telling. When you meet McCaleb or contact him by e-mail, ask him to tell you the tale of the Fright Factory Ghost – no lie. He may tell you for free or charge you a cold drink, but either way it’s a fucking good story.

These are some of my memories of McCeleb, for the moment.

The Oxford Film Festival
Oxford Mississippi
Sept 6-11,2005
http://www.oxfordfilmfest.com

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Oxford, Mississippi is a crossroads of Southern culture, influenced by rich traditions in music, literature, art, and food. Most folks are unaware that Elvis, Hemingway, Picasso, and Wolfgang Puck were all born in Oxford. So you can see that our roots are probably the most influential in history. Actually, none of that's true. Nonetheless, you need to get down here and be a part of the Oxford Film Festival. You won't find a town with more to offer than Oxford. I'm not saying this to get you to submit your film, I'm saying it because they pay me to talk good about Oxford, and because it's the truth. Look at me, for example. I came here to attend the University of Mississippi, located across town, and I still haven't graduated, even though I'm thirty. No, I'm not that lazy, Oxford is just that good. The Oxford Film Festival hopes to contribute the art of film to the creative atmosphere of our town. We hope you'll help us do that by submitting your film. Sincerely, Micah Ginn Co-Director
