[ 2:01PM ] [ monkey ] [ Indie Memphis Soul of Southern Film ]

We were saved by Cris McCoy on this one with a late night phone call giving us a shot at the 11th hour application. Thanks Mr. McCoy! (and Molly who probably put a phone to his eart and a bowie knife to his...) :)

The Indie Memphis Soul of Southern Film Festival

Festival Dates: October 21-27, 2005

Entry Criteria:

The Indie Memphis film festival focuses on films of a "southern persuasion;" that is, films that have some connection to the American South. Some examples from past festivals include films made in the South or by Southern filmmakers, as well as films that deal with the Southern experience or themes/subjects that are particularly relevant to the South and Southerners.

All entries must have been completed in the past two years. In addition, IM gives priority to films that have not screened in Memphis over the past six months.

AN OVERVIEW
The mission of Indie Memphis Film Festival is to showcase independent films that focus on the South and to support the local filmmaking community. The “Soul of Southern Film” is the only festival that celebrates and explores the image of the American South. From modest beginnings, the event has grown both in scale and quality over its five-year history. In 2002 nearly 100 dramatic features, shorts, and documentaries were screened. The 2003 festival was held from October 23 - 30 at Muvico Peabody Place Theaters in downtown Memphis.

[ 8:10PM ] [ monkey ] [ Spanish translation story ]

             There is much going on.

We are making significant improvements to The Legend of Crazy George. At this moment Kevin locked down at is much souped up computer, cutting and pasting images as planed. A new scene awaits with Steve Gwilt, comments direct from Dante’s Inferno are interjected and in their proper place Dorota has laid out an audio tract in Italian to compliment Dante’s comments. I really like the Italian, like BOOM for real.

Meanwhile on the other side of town trumpet was sounded and orders received to translate The Legend of Crazy George into Spanish. I had an expert on standby, but sadly Kristy had just graduated and was missing action. Rumors were she was fooling up with a Skunkape or worse got a straight job.

Panic set in but only for a moment. Molly (from the Playboy car scene) entered, “ I know a man from Mexico city who can do the job. I equipped Molly with all the tools our hero, Juan, would need. Time passes and Juan misses his 1 week deadline. Time passes. Juan misses his 2 week dead line. Time passes; Juan misses his 24 hour deadline. Where is Juan, in jail, DUI, poor Juan.

I’m driving hard and fast to Nashville to hook up with a Cuban friend who can help. It’s a haul so I live on the cell phone. Dave Johnson is on the line with all the answers. He’s got a friend from Mexico who can help. The Nashville plan is scrapped for Miguel. He receives the film and script and tells me if he can’t do it he has 3 friends who can. The next morning there is a message on my phone, “You can pick up your film and script at the 1st United Methodist Church.

I’m defeated and must surrender. I contact Edna in Mexico city and tell her. She says she can do it with a little help from her friends (I think could hear the Beatles there) We were saved by Edna! Saved! Soon The Legend of Crazy George will be translated into Spanish.

Gossip later about the DVD features!
